Matrix Maintains Quality Standard

News

Three years on from achieving Quality Management System ISO9001: 2015 for the first time, utility infrastructure provider (UIP) Matrix Networks has this month successfully passed its recertification.

Employees right across the business from the CEO, to Project Managers, to Estimators were interviewed as part of the process, providing evidence on how the Company operates and demonstrating to the Auditor an overall positive workplace culture.

The ISO standards specifically for quality management and environmental systems are key to Matrix Networks’ work in the utility infrastructure industry, where contractors can be severely penalised for not demonstrating due diligence. This renewed certification proves how seriously the UIP takes quality and is keen to see standards raised across its industry sector.

As stated by the ISO, 9001 is a standard based on a number of quality management principles, including a strong customer focus and the motivation and implication of top management. These are two areas in which Matrix Networks strives to excel and principles on which the Company was founded. In the Auditor’s report it was also commented that procedures, relationships and compliance had improved right across the business and this was a positive reflection on how colleagues are working together.

Rob Sparkes, Matrix Group CEO said: “Achieving our ISO9001:2015 recertification is extremely good news. Our business has been through and continues to go through a period of rapid growth, so to know the quality of our work is being upheld is encouraging to hear.

“Maintaining this ISO standard isn’t easy though and my thanks go to our SHEQ department for their continued commitment to quality and to all our employees for their tireless dedication and hard work.”

Matrix starts 2021 with recruitment drive

Vacancies, News

Independent Connections Provider Matrix Networks has made a positive start to the New Year with the launch of an online portal with recruitment partners Hays, and the promotion of several new vacancies.

The roles have been identified in support of the utility infrastructure specialist’s five year growth plan which was communicated to its existing employees before Christmas. They cover every discipline from design to estimating, provide opportunities for a range of experience levels, and are based out of the Company’s three locations across the UK.

Awarded a 2-star accreditation in the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ survey in 2019 for its ‘Outstanding’ commitment to workplace engagement, Matrix Networks prides itself on providing opportunities for staff development. And, as a small business currently employing around 70 personnel, as more talented individuals are recruited it aims to continue this ethos.

Rob Sparkes, Matrix Networks Group CEO, said: “We’re about to embark on a period of significant growth and therefore need to attract more personnel in to the business who want to be part of that journey. We always look at the talent of our own people first and promote or reassign roles where there’s an opportunity, but as great as our people are, we haven’t got enough of them.

“We’re working with Hays because they have the skills and experience to deliver our recruitment programme at the pace we need. They’ve taken time to understand our business, understand our people are our most valuable asset, and know the calibre of individuals we need to help our Company achieve its full potential.”

Elisabetta Baylis, Hays Managing Director, added: “Matrix Networks is a well-established and respected name in the utility infrastructure industry and I’m pleased they’ve chosen to work with us, to help them find the right people to join their successful team.

“Matrix is also very much an employee-focussed business. Working with them, specifically over the past few months, I know they’re not only looking for candidates with specific experience, but with the right mindset as well. We’re excited to be part of their onward journey and look forward to meeting potential candidates.”

Over the next few months, more roles will be added to the online portal to see the ICP potentially increase its headcount by as much as 50 per cent by the Spring. This recruitment drive will be supported by structural changes within the business and the exploration of new market opportunities to further establish Matrix Network’s objective of being the utility infrastructure provider and employer of choice.

Matrix Networks strengthens business development team

News

Independent Connections Provider Matrix Networks, has expanded its sales team to take advantage of the continued growth opportunity in the industrial and commercial utility infrastructure sector.

Nayan Mehta is now Sales Manager at Matrix Networks

Two new external appointments have been made as well as an internal promotion to strengthen the ICP’s national business development reach, under the leadership of Sales Director Paul Beck.

Stepping in to the role of Sales Manager, Nayan Mehta has been part of the Matrix Networks team for four years as a Key Account Manager. Over that time, Nayan has secured significant new business contracts which have helped the Company retain its position as a leading and respected utility infrastructure provider.

Commenting on his appointment, Nayan said: “Matrix Networks is a growing business operating in a construction industry which is experiencing one of the most rapid periods of growth of any UK sector following the Covid-19 lockdown in March. Every new development needs utility infrastructure, which means opportunities are opening up for our business every day. Having worked at Matrix for a number of years I’ve got to know the business, our industry and have built good relationships across our client base and am excited about the period of growth ahead of us.”

Nayan will coordinate Matrix Networks’ business development efforts focussing on the sectors in which the Company has built a solid relationship. These include Data Centres, Logistics Parks, Commercial and Industrial Parks and Units,  Apartments and Public Sector Developments amongst others – though, the opportunity to present themselves as the provider of choice across a wider range of sectors and where the potential for network adoption exists, will become a key area of focus.

Sales Director Paul Beck, added: “Matrix Networks is evolving from the business it was 14 years ago when it was founded. If we’re to continue with our evolution and engage with the growth which the construction sector is experiencing, we need to strengthen our team. In his new role, Nayan will helping to drive our business development opportunity, engaging with all departments to help ensure our future growth is fully coordinated and our customers remain at the forefront of everything we do.”

Nayan will initially manage a team of three Business Development Managers – Stu Giles, Alex Wilson and newly-appointed  Laura Watchorn, with further recruitment planned in 2021. Matrix Networks was founded in 2006 with the vision of providing an independent solution for infrastructure installations. The Company services UK developers, main contractors, and consultants. and is accredited under CHAS and Altius, as well as Lloyd’s Register WIRS, GIRS and NERS schemes.

Going for Gold

News

Independent Connections Provider Matrix Networks Group, has been awarded Gold level membership of the nationally-recognised Constructionline platform, providing confirmation that they meet industry standards across the board.

Constructionline works with construction buyers and suppliers to help speed up search, validation and purchasing decisions, opening up opportunities for members to access a wide range of procurement contracts and projects – and for buyers to access a validated pool of high quality suppliers.

Matrix Networks’ new certification therefore places them on a strong footing for securing further high profile multi-utility infrastructure contracts where the immediate validation of credentials are required, saving time and expense at the tendering stage.

Constructionline offers four levels of Membership. Matrix opted for Gold as it was the most appropriate for the size and nature of its business, and by requiring a more detailed prequalification questionnaire as well as a SSIP assessment, it would provide the evidence demanded by some of the UK’s most high profile contractors.

To qualify for Constructionline Gold Membership, Matrix Networks completed:

  • An enhanced prequalification questionnaire which went beyond the standard PAS91
  • A Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSI) assessment, providing evidence of competence in health and safety management
  • The Common Assessment Standard – a standard set of questions developed by industry to help save time and money at the prequalification stage.

Paul Beck, Matrix Networks Sales Director, said: “We’re finding more and more contractors are asking their supply chain partners to be listed on Constructionline, because it ensures they’re dealing with businesses which meet the required industry standards without having to duplicate and evaluate further prequalification assessments.

“We’re extremely pleased to have achieved Gold level membership as this is proof of our capabilities and standards as a business – and something for which we’ll work to maintain year on year. We’re obviously new to Constructionline, but are already starting to realise the benefits of being a registered member.”

Matrix Networks Group is an industrial and commercial multi-utility Independent Connections Provider (ICP), servicing UK developers, main contractors, and consultants. The Company is accredited under CHAS and Altius, as well as Lloyd’s Register WIRS, GIRS and NERS schemes.
