Utility infrastructure works now underway at Hams Hall

News

Work has now started on site for utility infrastructure provider Matrix Networks to install gas and electricity connections for Prologis Park Hams Hall at Junction 9 of the M42 in Coleshill, Warwickshire.

Matrix Networks, an Independent Connections Provider (ICP) was awarded the work by main contractor Winvic earlier this year. They will be responsible for the design and installation of the new high voltage electricity and gas services required to bring this manufacturing and distribution park development to life.

Following remediation works from the site’s previous use as a power generation plant, utility infrastructure will be one of the next major components to be completed. Matrix Networks has scoped its work for ‘power on’ by September 2018 – which is a restricted timescale for a project of this scale but, because the ICP is responsible for both the gas and electricity installations, with service connections being provided by sister company, UK Power Distribution, they have been able to provide Winvic with a single point of contact from which to manage multi-utility connections, enabling clear communication and flexibility, as well as cost and programme certainty.

Nayan Mehta, Matrix Networks Account Manager, said: “We have a wealth of experience delivering multi-utility contracts for distribution parks, but every project and client is unique. For Hams Hall, we’ve been tasked with delivering a significant contract within a tight timeframe. But, because our client Winvic has worked with us before, they know we’ll resource and manage the project appropriately, to ensure it’s completed safely, on brief and on time.”

Matrix Networks will install two main substations, two pad-mounted transformers for local street lighting, plus two gas governors. The connection point for the 8MVA electricity supply is located 700m off site at a local primary substation and the medium pressure gas connection, 300m off site.

Kenny Cockrell, Winvic project manager, added: “Matrix Networks provides a single solution for all utility requirements, from tender through to delivery, including detailed designs, installations, legal support and commissioning. Their flexible approach helps us to meet the needs of our clients – which can change significantly through our projects.”

Marketed as the ‘final significant development opportunity within the manufacturing and distribution park of Hams Hall’, three or four units totalling 886,980 sq ft of commercial space will make up the total Prologis development. Hams Hall is located close to major air, rail and road transport routes and a stone’s throw from premises occupied by world-leading automotive and logistics companies, making it one of the most attractive commercial bases currently available in the UK.

“We’re delighted to be bringing forward this brownfield site and putting it back into productive use,” said Alan Sarjant from Prologis UK. “There is a shortage of power for industrial users in the West Midlands region so it’s good news that this site has the potential to provide more power for customers, if required.”

Matrix Networks is an industrial and commercial multi-utility Independent Connections Provider (ICP), servicing UK developers, main contractors, and consultants. The Company is accredited under CHAS and Altius, as well as Lloyd’s Register WIRS, GIRS and NERS schemes.
