Coventry project updates

We’re working closely with Coventry City Council to carry out essential electricity upgrade works on Humber Road and London Road.

Essential electricity network upgrade works across Coventry will start from 18th May 2026 and continue throughout the remainder of the year. To help minimise disruption to residents, businesses, and road users, the works will be carried out in a number of locations and phases across the city.

The primary phase of the project involves the installation of underground ducting. This will require excavation works on selected streets. Following the completion of the ducting installation, we’ll return to certain streets to undertake additional excavations for the construction of cable bays and the installation of electricity cables within the newly installed ducts.

These works won’t affect your electricity supply, and we’ll keep our traffic management systems to a minimum with marshals on hand to help. We kindly ask residents to refrain from parking in the areas specified in the notification letters we’ll be sending out during this project, to help us complete the works efficiently and without delays. For detailed plans to see exactly where we’re working and how construction will progress over the coming weeks, click the links below:

We’re working closely with Coventry City Council who are also carrying out work in the area to construct sections of the Willenhall cycleway. Our work will be coordinated to keep disruption to a minimum. You can find out more about the cycleway work here.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding these works please call us on 03303 209 899 or email [email protected] quoting Project Number MN215926.

We’ll keep this page updated as the work progresses.

9th October update

Rowley Road

The cable ducting has now been installed in this area. Further updates will be provided on when we’ll return to install the cables.

Lower Ford Street – Raglan Street – East Street

Please see drawings above of completed works.

 Payne Lane and Britannia Street

Please see drawings above of completed works.

Gosford Park – Binley Road – Open Space

We’ve now finished the duct installation in this area. The excavation across Gosford Green took longer than planned due to the heatwave causing the ground to dry and harden, causing delays.

The weekend works across Binley Road was completed in two weekends rather than one.

The works on the Open Space area is now connected to the ducting we installed in November 2025.

We’ll need to return to install the cables, and we’re working with the council to coordinate with their cycle lane works. We’ll communicate a date to residents as soon as possible.

Stonehouse Lane

We’ll be returning to Stonehouse Lane beween 10th and 14th October to complete the final section, tying into the works we started on London Road November 2025. We weren’t able to complete these works on our first visit due to traffic and the cycle lane construction.

We plan to complete on London Road 10th/11th October and Stonehouse Lane over the verge to the footway 12th, 13th and 14th October.

This will complete the duct installation, ready for the cable installation towards the end of October, which will be down in the Hammerhead area of Stonehouse Lane

Terry Road and Roundabouts either end

We plan to start works in this area in the coming weeks and a date will be communicated once confirmed. As this area is where the cycle lane works is being carried out, we’re working with the council on the best approach.

9th September update

Rowley Road

Since starting work on 6th August, progress has gone well. We’ve now got to the business area of the junction and progress has slowed to ensure traffic can keep moving with minimum disruption.

Lower Ford Street – Raglan Street – East Street

The duct installation is now complete andexcavations were quicker than we had planned, meaning we finished our return visit on Lower Ford Streer a day early. We completed works on Raglan Street four days earlier than expected, which brought East Street works forward, completing before the start of the school term.

Payne Lane and Britannia Street

Works started 1st September. Payne Street is now complete, and we’re progressing down Britannia Street under a road closure. We’re hoping to complete on Britannia Street by the end of this week (11th September) up to Grantham street, where we finished back in June.

Gosford Park – Binley Road – Open Space

Works are planned to start at Gosford Park from 17th September. Excavations across Binley Road will be carried over over the following weekends: 19th/20th September, 26th/27th September, and 3rd/4th October. Lane closure traffic management will be in place from Friday evenings to allow us to have a good start Saturday mornings.

The work we do at Open Space will be to join the ducts we installed in the area last year. The excavation areas on Gosford Park will have barriers around it to keep the area safe as we back fill and reinstate as we go to keep open excavation to a minimum in this area.

Swansell Street

Progress on Swanswell Street has gone as planned without any delays and we’re now finished in this area. We’d like to thank the local residents for their patience during this time.

Stonehouse Lane

We’re cbehind on our planned timescales for Stonehouse  due to the delays during the HDD Drill and the number of utilities in the street slowing down our progress. We’re hopeful that Stonehouse Lane will be completed before the end of the week (7th August 2026), leaving the junction to be completed when we return to install the cable in the duct.

5th August update

Swansell Street

Progress on Swanswell Street has gone as planned without any delays. The works should be completed as planned on 7th August, which will complete our works in this area.

We’d like to thank the local residents for their patience during this time.

Stonehouse Lane

We’re cbehind on our planned timescales for Stonehouse  due to the delays during the HDD Drill and the number of utilities in the street slowing down our progress. We’re hopeful that Stonehouse Lane will be completed before the end of the week (7th August 2026) leaving the junction to be completed when we return to install the cable in the duct.

13th July update

Cox Street – Primrose Hill – Swanswell Street

Works on Cox Street has progressed quicker than planned, this has been due to a water pipe repair by Severn Trent Water on the junction to Lower Ford Street and Cox Street, they required a Road Closure on Cox Street, which gave us the opportunity to excavate and load our wagons with spoil with out the restrictions of other traffic in the area. We are now aiming to cross Primrose Hill four (4) days earlier than planned, as long as we gain the approval from the council we should complete Cox Street and Primrose Hill by the 19th July.

Works on Swanswell Street is to commence 27th July which will follow on from the completion of the works on Humber Road, Please refer to Howard Street updates

Stonehouse Lane

Works has commenced on Stonehouse Lane in the Hammer Head, we have completed 1 of the drill shots under the A45, the second shot will commence 13th July with completion 14th July with the Duct installation. The Final Drill Shot 3 is planned for 16th July with the Duct installation being completed by 18th July, Excavation out to London Road will progress after this slightly earlier than planned.

Howard Street – Stoney Stanton Way

Due to the affect on the traffic when we were on Howard Street at the end of June, discussions with the council was to cancel our works at this location and request a Road Closure, we shall be returning to complete these works 20th July we will also be closing Stoney Stanton Way lanes at two (2) separate times, the lane closest to Howard Street will be closed during the works on Howard Street 20th July – 26th July. The second Lane closest to Swanswell Street will be closed when we carry out the works on Swanswell Street 27th July – 7th August

Further Works Commencing 7th August

Lower Ford Street – Raglan Street – East Street

Lower Ford Street will be reduced to one (1) Lane from 7th August – 13th August to complete the works

Raglan Street and East Street will be closed from 7th August – 28th August, the decision to close these roads has been made due to the difficulties with the parked cars, which has held up the progression of our works in other areas of the city.

Britannia Street

Britannia Street will be closed from the 26th August for us to excavate along this street, when we carried out the works on Grantham Street to follow onto Britannia street we were unable to progress due to the parked cars and the buses. For us to minimise disruption in the area and for us to be efficient we took the decision to close the road. The works on Grantham Street are complete.

6th June update

Foleshill Road and Eagle Street

Works have been completed on Foleshill Road and we’re now progressing along Eagle Street towards Leicester Causeway. We’ve encountered a few delays during our excavations due to unforeseen issues, including parked cars. However, we appreciate how cooperative local residents have been about the parking situation. We’re aiming to complete works on Eagle Street by 5th June.

Asda Roundabout, London Road

Excavation works at the roundabout were completed as planned between 23rd May and 31st May. This has now connected the ducting between Humber Road and London Road, ready for cable installation later in the year. Dates for the cable installation will be provided once confirmed, as they’re dependent on progress in other areas.

Grantham Street and Britannia Street

Works commenced on Grantham Street on 1st June, as planned. We’re progressing from the Walsgrave junction towards Britannia Street and are aiming to complete this section by 5th June. Initial delays were encountered due to parked cars, but we appreciate this is a challenging street for everyone, with limited space. Subject to progress, works on Britannia Street are expected to begin from 8th June.

Further Works Commencing 5th June

Leicester Causeway and Howard Street

Works at this location are scheduled to start 5th June, starting from the Eagle Street junction along Leicester Causeway and heading towards Coventry College. This phase is expected to continue until 25th June.

Please don’t park any vehicles the areas specified in the notification letter we’ve recently sent out, to help us complete the works efficiently and without delays.

26th May update

Foleshill Road and Eagle Street

Work on Foleshill Road (towards Eagle Street) started as planned on 18th May, but progress has been slower than expected due to the amount of utilities in the area. We’re on schedule for the works on the Eagle Street junction; we still plan on being at the bottom of Eagle Street by the end of next week (29th May).

7th May update

Humber Road

Working collaboratively with the council, work has been completed up to the ASDA roundabout junction. We plan to cross this junction week commencing 23rd May to tie into the work on London Road.

During the excavation of the roundabout, we’ll complete the short stretch at Terry Road. We’re working with the council to align with their cycle lane construction schedule. We expect this work to take place over three weekends during the school summer holidays.

Stonehouse Lane

This section has been delayed as we’re waiting for approval from National Highways to drill under the A45. We’re hoping to have this by 1st June, and we’ll send out letters to affected residents once confirmed.

For your safety during this work, the Hammerhead area of Stonehouse Lane (shown in yellow in the drawing above) will need to be fenced off for three weeks. Once the drilling is complete, we’ll continue excavating from Hammerhead our to London Road.

Foleshill Road and Eagle Street

On 18th May, we’ll be starting work on Foleshill Road, working towards Eagle Street Junction. We’re aiming to have our traffic management systems removed from Eagle Street by 23rd May, and complete this section by early June, moving onto Leicester Street.

We’ll be posting letters to residents in this area asking if they could park cars elsewhere during this time.

ASDA Roundabout

During the May half term (week commencing 23rd May), we’ll be crossing this roundabout to tie in the works on Humber Road, and the work carried out on London Road earlier this year. This should then complete the duct installation for this area.

In October and November 2026, we’ll return to install the cable within the ducting, which should have less impact on local traffic.

23rd March update

Stonehouse Lane

We have further works coming up which requires the closure of Stonehouse Lane. We’ll try to keep the disruption to a minimum and keep as much access possible for residents.

From 13th April we must fence off the Hammerhead area of Stonehouse Lane, as show in yellow in the drawing linked above. This is so we can safely drill under the A45. We expect these works to take place until 27th April and from that date, we’ll continue excavating from Hammerhead out to London Road. We’re aiming to complete by 5th May 2026.

19th March update

Humber Road, Phase 2

Our works, alongside the council cycle lane works, are coming to an end on this stretch of road. We’re speaking with the council to adjust the work sites so we can complete down the road to the ASDA roundabout.

16th February update

London Road, Coventry resurfacing works

Works were completed as planned over the weekend. We’ll send updates when we secure a date to complete the remaining section of the road.

Humber Road, Phase 2

These works have progressed as planned for this section.

12th February update

London Road, Coventry resurfacing works

Following our recent works on London Road, some sections of the road surface haven’t performed as expected. We’ve been working with Coventry City Council Highways to agree the best way to resolve this.

As a result, we’ll be carrying out emergency resurfacing along London Road between Abbey Court and Asda Roundabout.

The works will take place this weekend (14th and 15th February) between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Multi-way temporary traffic lights will be in place throughout the works will be manually controlled during working hours.

We’re continuing to work closely with Coventry City Council, who are also delivering sections of the Willenhall cycleway in the area. All works are being coordinated to help minimise disruption.

For more information about the cycleway project, please visit: www.coventry.gov.uk/WillenhallCyclewayHumberRoad

2nd February update

London Road

We’ve now completed as much duct installation as possible on London Road under the required traffic management without encroaching onto the roundabout. The remainder of London Road will be completed when the works on the Roundabout take place: the date is not confirmed for this yet.

28th January update: Humber Road phase 2 (Terry Road and ASDA roundabout)

We have further works starting Monday, 9th February on this stretch of Road. To keep disruptions to a minimum, we’re working collaboratively with the council to complete these works at the same time as they carry out the cycle lane works.

Updates will be available every Monday.

26th January update

Works on London Road are progressing as planned. We’ll be carrying out further works during the week commencing 26th January, which we anticipate will be the final week of major disruption on London Road. Thank you for your patience while these works are completed.

We’ll aim to work as close to the roundabout as permitted under the current traffic management arrangements. Traffic management on the roundabout itself will be required for the next phase of works; however, a date for this has not yet been confirmed.

19th January update

Progress is going well as planned. We should be clear of the Abbey Road junction, working our way up the hill towards the roundabout under two way lights today (Monday 19th January).

12th January update

Works started on London Road 5th January across the junction of Abbey Road. Progress this week has been good without any unforeseen difficulties. We started excavating across the junction last weekend (10th January), working our way up the hill. If all goes well, we should be clear of the junction by 16th January with the final remaining works to be completed on the upper section of London Road for the last two weeks in January.

22nd December update

We need to return in the New Year to complete the planned works at the location shown in the London Road plan. We’ll start works on 5th January 2026 to complete the excavation works across Abbey Court Junction with Multi Way Lights. Once this area is complete, we’ll move up the hill towards the Roundabout. We expect the works to be completed within January.

15th December update

Progress has improved along London Road, and we’ve now moved past St James Lane. Unfortunately, due to Emergency works in the area by with another utility, we’re unable to set up traffic lights have traffic lights on Abbey Court to allow us to excavate across. We’re going to leave this section and work up the hill to the roundabout until 19th December.

We’ll be returning 5th January to install the cable in the ducts, which we hope to complete by 26th January and will be less disruptive.

The future works for Humber Road are being reviewed with intended dates in 2026, along with the Council program of works. Once confirmed, we’ll update this page with the details.

11th December update

Works on London Road will cease Friday 19th December 2025 and there will be no works taking place during the two week Christmas Holiday period. The team will remobilise to site from Monday 5th January 2026, where our works will continue along London Road from the junction of Abbey Road towards Asda roundabout for approximately three weeks.

8th December update

The planned works for the duct installation down Humber Road has now been completed for this year. The works onto the roundabout heading out of Coventry will be programmed in the New Year along with the cable Installation in the Installed Ducts

We’ve now crossed over to the other side of London Road, at St James Lane and the junction’s main traffic lights were reinstated yesterday (Sunday 7th December). We’re progressing down London Road to Chace Avenue. As the build up on this side of the road is easier to break up, we expect we’ll have passed Chace Avenue towards the end of this week.

1st December update

Works are continuing along London Road (towards Abbey Road), whilst the works on Humber Road will be completed by 7th December.

24th November update

This week, our teams are continuing to make steady progress across both work areas.

We’re now progressing across St James’ Lane, coordinating closely with the local energy supplier, who are carrying out fault-repair works on their network in the same area. By aligning our activities, we’re aiming to minimise disruption and keep both sets of works moving efficiently.

On Humber Road, we’ve now moved past the row of shops and are working our way down towards the roundabout. Traffic management remains in place to ensure the safety of road users and our operatives while we complete this section of excavation works.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while these essential upgrade works continue and will keep sharing updates here each week as we move forward.

17th November update

We’ll be continuing our programme of works along London Road, progressing towards St James’ Lane over the coming week. To support this, closures remain in place on both Humber Avenue and Hollis Road so that our team can safely continue excavation works along Humber Road.

These traffic management measures allow us to keep the project moving while ensuring the safety of pedestrians, road users, and our operatives. We appreciate that this may cause some disruption and are grateful for your continued patience while we carry out these essential electricity upgrade works.

Last week, we held a joint drop-in session with Coventry City Council at St James Church. Thank you to everyone who came along to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share feedback. We found the conversations really helpful, and we’ll continue to work closely with the Council as the works progress.

We’ll keep providing updates here each week, so please check back for the latest information as the project moves forward.

10th November update

Work is now underway on both Humber Road and London Road, and progress is going well.

As part of the collaboration between Coventry City Council and Matrix Networks, we will be holding a drop in session on Tuesday 11th November between 4pm – 7pm at St James Church 171 Abbey Road, Coventry CV3 4BG.

If you’d like to find out more about the project or ask any questions, please feel free to come along where members of our team will be happy to chat.

We’ll continue to share updates here as the works move forward.
