  • Location

    Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire

  • Client

    Bowmer & Kirkland

  • Description

A new national football centre was planned for a 330-acre site at Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire, to provide coaching and development work for those associated with the sport. The site would also be home to a new hotel, making it a significant leisure complex for the region and nationally.

This was one of our first projects for Bowmer & Kirkland and the brief was complex. It was a dual-utility solution requiring the following:

    Electricity

    • Design and installation of new 11kV infrastructure to be adopted by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
    • Excavation and installation of a new 11kV circuit from the DNO Primary Substation at Barton under Needwood, a village located 10km away
    • Establishment of an 11kV switching station mid-way along the route
    • Installation of a new 11kV intake substation to DNO specification
    • Installation of a private 11kV intake multi-panel switchboard substation
    • Installation of a private dual 11kV substation for the on-site hotel
    • Installation of a private 11kV substation for a sports science facility
    • Changeover from the existing 11kV infrastructure to the new installation
    • Installation of on-site 11kV and low voltage cabling and jointing
    • Management of on-site cable diversions by the DNO.

    Gas

    • Design and installation of new gas infrastructure to be adopted by the National Grid
    • Design and installation of medium pressure/low pressure governor for the on-site hotel, sports science complex and training/ changing pavilion.
