SEGRO Logistics Park: East Midlands’ Gateway

  • Location

    M1, Junction 24, Leicestershire

  • Client

    Roxhill/SEGRO

  • Contract

    Multi-utility solution

  • Background

SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway is a 6,000,000 sq ft development due for occupation in September 2018. Marketed as a facility which offers big brands ‘…a big box with a big name’, the Park will be accessible within 41/2 hours from anywhere in the UK, have direct access to the M1, its own rail interchange and be located next to the UK’s second busiest cargo hub.

  • Our brief

For this flagship development which would have such a significant impact on future logistics operations across the UK, Roxhill needed a partner who could bring their development to life on budget, on time and to the high standard they’d come to associate with us. We were asked to provide a multi-utility solution as follows:

Electricity: Design, installation and commissioning of a new 33/11kV primary substation to supply 28MVA. A 12.5km offsite excavation route for 33kV cabling – the furthest distance we’d ever worked on, and the design, installation and commission of an on-site 11kV infrastructure with secondary substation to supply on-streetlighting.

Gas: Design, installation and commissioning of a medium pressure gas main.

Water: Design and installation of a water main.

  • How we delivered

We mapped out our programme of works, we ran monthly meetings on site with representation from operations, design, our commercial and legal teams and the project manager, providing open and fluid communications throughout. The project achieved ‘power on’ on time and following our successful completion, we’ve gone on to secure further work with Roxhill.
