Independent Connections Provider (ICP) Matrix Networks has started 2019 with some positive news, achieving certification for the first time under Quality Management System ISO9001: 2015.
The ISO standards specifically for quality management and environmental systems are key to Matrix Network’s work in the utility infrastructure industry, where contractors can be severely penalised for not demonstrating due diligence. This new certification proves how seriously the ICP takes quality and is keen to see standards raised across its industry sector.
As stated by the ISO, 9001 is a standard based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, and the motivation and implication of top management. These are two areas in which Matrix Networks strives to excel and principles on which the Company was founded. In the auditors’ report, Matrix Networks was noted as a company which: “…has the advantage of a very experienced SHEQ department, which has enabled them to produce a strong and mature quality management system, which is advanced for the industry.”
In preparation for its audit, Matrix Networks reviewed quality performance across the business, paying particular attention to its engagement with subcontractors. Davina Reilly, Matrix Networks SHEQ Manager, said: “By working through the ISO process we wanted to show our stakeholders that we take quality seriously. As part of our preparation work we improved our subcontractor control processes and set up new internal audit and inspection procedures. As a result, our auditor commended our use of Work Packs and Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS), helping to ensure consistent quality management practices for personnel working in the field.”
Under ISO guidelines, a surveillance audit will now be carried out for Matrix Networks’ business operations each year, with a recertification audit in three years’ time.
Rob Sparkes, Matrix Networks Managing Director, added: “Achieving our ISO9001:2015 certification is further confirmation for us that we’re heading in the right direction. Over the past six months, we’ve been recognised by three different awarding bodies who have recognised our future potential, our employee engagement and the specialist service we provide to the construction industry.
“My thanks go to our SHEQ team for their commitment to taking us through the ISO process, and to all our employees for their continued dedication and hard work.”
